Foot wound requires collar
Our African grey was attacked by a jealous Amazon who pulled out her tail feathers and tore one foot open, just behind the toes. We are having a difficult time keeping salve on the wound - as soon as we apply it she picks it off. We cannot bandage it either as she will pick that off also. Can you recommend a good ointment or salve to speed up healing? Would colloidal silver be of any benefit?

Birds are intolerant of any defect on their body and will pick at scabs and medications. A foot injury like your bird's requires a restraint collar. He should wear it at all times, until healing occurs.
Ointments should not be used on birds because their oily base damages the feathers. Use water-soluble products instead, such as aloe gel or silvadine cream.
