![]() Foot wound requires collar Our African grey was attacked by a jealous Amazon who pulled out her tail feathers and tore one foot open, just behind the toes. We are having a difficult time keeping salve on the wound - as soon as we apply it she picks it off. We cannot bandage it either as she will pick that off also. Can you recommend a good ointment or salve to speed up healing? Would colloidal silver be of any benefit? -- Florence Janisch, Florida BIRDS ARE INTOLERANT of any defect on their body and will pick at scabs and medications. A foot injury like your bird's requires a restraint collar. He should wear it at all times, until healing occurs. Ointments should not be used on birds because their oily base damages the feathers. Use water-soluble products instead, such as aloe gel or silvadine cream. ParrotChronicles.com ------- |
