![]() Change diet to combat constipation I was curious to know if birds become constipated. If so, what might be possible causes and how can you help? I have heard that some birds on certain all-pellet diets can have this problem. --Patricia Serock, pserock@burpee.com Pellets don't cause constipation. Insufficient water consumption, kidney or liver conditions, and abnormalities of the digestive tract can. A constipated bird strains to relieve himself and produces hard fecal matter. Make sure he has clean, fresh water at all times and offer fruits and vegetables. If this doesn't correct the problem, make an appointment with your vet for a thorough examination.
