Facial skin bumps should be removed
My 3 1/2-year-old greenwing macaw has two small bumps approximately half an inch from her right eye (in the skin patch on her face). Could these be pimples? Should I be concerned that they could be some type of cyst?

BOTH HARMLESS cysts and malignant tumors can start out as small bumps. However, malignant tumors of facial skin are rare. It's more likely your macaw has cysts, or lipomas (fat tumors). That's the good news. The bad news is that either can grow large over time and should be taken care of when still small. Whether cancerous or benign, most of these growths are easily removed with minimal disfiguration, if tended to promptly. Please have your bird seen as soon as possible.
