![]() Incense fumes are dangerous Is burning incense harmful to birds? I have heard of oil scented candles being harmful, but also that burning sage was fine, and didn't harm birds. Is anything non-harmful to burn around birds? I have looked at my share of bird articles, and I have never seen anything about this topic really. -- E. Shane Wong, Indianapolis Ind. Is it safe for me to use baking soda in my carpets as a freshener with an umbrella cockatoo in the same room? It is a very open room with a ceiling fan and good air movement. -- Franki, Oklahoma City I wouldn't burn anything where birds are kept. Any fume has the potential for harm. Tobacco smoke is irritating; some chemicals, such as the gas released from highly heated non-stick cookware, are deadly. When it comes to carpet cleaning, stay away from commercial solvents, which can sicken or kill your bird. In fact, I am reluctant to recommend anything other than steam cleaning - after you have removed your bird from the premises. If you must use any other type of cleaner, I wouldn't return your bird to his room until it has been aired out for several days. ParrotChronicles.com ------- |
